3 moments from the 2024 season Chiefs fans should be grateful for

It’s Thanksgiving Day and that means it’s time to watch football, eat good food, and think about what you’re grateful for in your life. Kansas City Chiefs fans have a lot to be grateful for this season, even if we are sometimes frustrated by this team.

The simple things to be thankful for are the fact that the Chiefs are two straight Super Bowl champions or that they will be a Super Bowl contender as long as Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid are at the helm. The team is 10-1 this year and appears to be on its way to another AFC West title and a potential No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

However, let’s break this post down and pick three memories from this season that Chiefs Kingdom may be most grateful for. Whether it was a moment that made Chiefs fans grateful for the team this city has, or whether it helped the Chiefs win a game or for some other reason, these moments will be remembered by fans for a long time.

The 2024 NFL regular season began with the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs hosting the team they defeated in the AFC Championship Game eight months earlier. The first game of the NFL season meant it was Banner Night for the team that won the big game and got to host the first game of the next season.

Banner nights have become routine for the Chiefs, as this was the third one they have hosted in five years. The even sweeter part of this moment was that they got to unfurl the Super Bowl LVIII banner in front of the team they defeated to win Lombardi. Speaking of games…

Think back to Week 1 of the NFL season. The game ended in the final seconds, as is tradition for the Chiefs in this era, and the Ravens appeared to have the defending champions on the ropes. With the Chiefs leading 27-20 and the Ravens getting the ball back with 1:50 left, Lamar Jackson then led an 11-play, 77-yard drive that originally resulted in a touchdown.

Jackson found tight end Isaiah Probably open in the back of the end zone and at first glance the Ravens had scored the touchdown they needed with no time left. It’s likely that Baltimore would have gone for two points to get the win, but they had no chance to make that decision because, as it turned out, Likely’s foot was just out of bounds.

That was it. The Chiefs had won the game by far thanks to Likely’s big feet. Had they lost, it wouldn’t have been the end of the world, but it would have been a shame to lose the second Banner Night game in a row, so it was fun to see KC win this game.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: The Chiefs’ game was decisive until the last second! I know, shocking right?

It looked like the Broncos would beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium for the first time since Peyton Manning’s retirement when rookie quarterback Bo Nix helped put together a drive that put the Broncos inside with time to spare Field brought in to kick a game-winning field goal. Luckily for the Chiefs, they are experts at how to win in these situations and blocked Wil Lutz’s field goal attempt, giving KC the win and making Denver wait even longer for a chance to win at Arrowhead.

The Broncos’ current radio call is absolutely everything and should be a must-listen for Chiefs fans if you haven’t heard it yet. Absolute hilarity.
