New York Knicks OG Anunoby, Jalen Brunson reach career highs, crush Denver Nuggets

New York Knicks stars OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson won gold against the Deneve Nuggets.

The prized imports each set a career high on Monday night as the Knicks cruised to a 145-118 victory at halftime of a five-game road trip at Ball Arena. Monday was a historic night in more ways than one for the Knicks (10-7), who dished out a franchise-best 45 assists in a game, tying a record set in 1979.

Two nights after Anunoby set his career-best with a Knicks goal in Salt Lake City, he set his all-time total with 40 points and shot 16 of 21 from the field at 5 of 7 the three-point range.

Brunson’s equally outstanding shooting night (23 points, 8 of 14, 4 of 5 from three) was complemented by a career-best 17 assists. He is the first Knick to score at least 20 and 15 points in each category since Nate Robinson did so against the Los Angeles Clippers in February 2009.

Although Karl-Anthony Towns fell short of his personal success, he was also productive, scoring 30 points on 12 of 15 and four perfect three-point attempts, along with 15 rebounds. Seven different Knicks, including all five starters, reached double figures and benefited from the large number of helpers. That group included reserve Miles McBride, who scored 13 in his first game back from a knee injury that sidelined him the last five games.

The penultimate game of this road trip takes place on Wednesday night when the Knicks face the likely Luka Doncic-missing Dallas Mavericks (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).
