Kristin Chenoweth responds to Ariana Grande’s comment that Glinda from “Wicked” might be a little in the closet.

“That’s what I thought at the time,” Chenoweth, who originated the role of Glinda on Broadway, commented on Instagram

Kristin Chenoweth, who originated the role of Glinda Evil on Broadway in 2003 responded to Ariana Grande’s recent comment about Glinda appearing in the new role Evil Film “could be a bit in the closet.”

Speaking to the British outlet Gay times for a video interview posted on Friday, November 21st, Grande and Evil Co-star Cynthia Erivo shared her thoughts on her character’s sexuality.

“I think Elphie goes where the wind blows,” Erivo, 37, said of her character Elphaba. “I think she loves Glinda. I think she loves love. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with celebrating the deep connection between the two,” adding that their characters have an “unbreakable bond.”

“And trust and truth,” Grande, 31, chimed in. “Just a safe space for each other, as all relationships should be, whether romantic or platonic.” The pop star then said: “Glinda may be in the closet a little bit. You never know!”

Chenoweth, 56, agreed: “That’s what I thought back when…” The actress commented on an Instagram post on Friday.

Evil – an iconic Broadway show turned film – tells the origin story of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. The story reveals that Elphaba and Glinda were once best friends before events beyond their control forced them in completely different directions – turning Elphaba into the “evil” witch audiences know The Wizard of Oz.

Off-screen, Grande and Erivo demonstrated a close friendship in real life, attending press events in coordinated outfits and supporting each other in moments of need.

Evil Is directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Ethan Slater, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Bowen Yang, Peter Dinklage and Michelle Yeoh.

The film will be released in two parts, the first part is already showing in cinemas.
