Al Roker is leaving Today co-hosts, unconvinced by the promises made on the show

Al Roker’s frequent jokes about the Show today are often the highlight of his performances, from his banter with Craig Melvin to his heartfelt moments with Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb.

The popular NBC weatherman, 70, appeared on the show on Thursday, November 28, to deliver his usual forecast to Hoda, Craig and Sheinelle Jones.

After a section on the use of drones in fast food delivery services, Hoda turned to Al to ask about the weather, presumably in advance one of his characteristic witty retorts. Check out an example in the video below…

“Hey! Hey now!” However, he began to explain that he was on his best behavior today. “I promised our executive producer Tom Mazzarelli that I would be good, so…”

When both Sheinelle and Hoda agreed with “Okay, fine,” Craig was unconvinced by his mischievous friend’s change of heart and joked in return: “When did you start doing this?”

Al simply replied: “Just keep going.” which Sheinelle and Hoda repeated as Craig giggled to himself and the weatherman continued with his forecast for the coming days.

Al will join Hoda and Savannah early the next day to host NBC’s special broadcast of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, its 98th edition, as usual.

While the day is full of festivities and big celebrations and begins a weekend full of thanksgiving, family dinners and lots of shopping, it is certainly a bittersweet day for the team here Today.

On Thursday, November 28th, Hoda will celebrate the final Thanksgiving as host of the Show today and the host of the Macy’s special (that we know of) before leaving the show as one of her co-hosts in January 2025.

Taking her place is the newly announced co-host of Today Craig, who, in addition to his co-host duties on Third Hour, often fills in for Savannah and Hoda on the main show (as he did today in Savannah’s absence).

Al recently spoke to HELLO! exclusively about Hoda’s departure and what that entailed, saying, “You know, it would be more bitter than sweet if she left, left,” adding that she’s “just transitioning into a different role.”

As a father of three children himself, he could understand her desire to spend time with her daughters. “They’re just, you know, they’re little kids and she wants to spend that time with them. So I totally understand,” he continued, adding, “She’s not leaving the family. So at the end of the day, I’m happy for them.”

“The great thing about the Today Show,” Al said, is that “the sum is greater than its equal parts,” praising his other co-hosts like Craig, Sheinelle, Willie Geist and others for following in their footsteps are. “They all subbed in, they all jumped in, and we’re not leaving anything out.”

“No matter what happens, we’ll be in great shape,” Al said. “Each of us is very lucky to be in this position, no matter how long we have left, and then we pass the baton to someone else. So the future of the show is just as strong and bright no matter who steps in.”
