Amon Ra St Brown has the right trend

The Detroit Lions’ star wide receiver is trending to be available for Thursday’s Thanksgiving matchup against the Chicago Bears.

When asked about replacing Kalif Raymond as the team’s punt returner because of his foot injury, Lions coach Dan Campbell said Tuesday that he would use St. Brown in that role again because of his reliability after missing a punt against the Indianapolis Colts had on the field. St. Brown was one of six Lions players who did not participate in Monday’s walkthrough due to injury.

“I actually feel pretty good about Saint,” said Campbell, of Allen Park. “But today I will know more.”

For three other injured Lions starters – left tackle Taylor Decker, cornerback Carlton Davis and Raymond – Campbell did not provide an update, saying “no” if there was increased optimism about any of their diagnoses overnight.

The Lions’ injury report estimated that St. Brown and running back David Montgomery were limited in Tuesday’s walkthrough, while Raymond, Decker and Davis did not practice.

“The injury report is pretty much the same,” Campbell said. “So a lot of people are questionable.”

Decker left the win over the Colts with knee and ankle injuries but returned to the game. Raymond suffered a foot injury on a kick return and Davis injured his knee while making an interception late in the fourth quarter. Before feeling good, Campbell said Decker and Davis did not suffer long-term injuries, even though they were unavailable during the short turnaround period.

Campbell said the team is waiting for a second diagnosis of Raymond’s injury before knowing how long he will be out.

“The first word we got was positive,” Campbell said. “We’re just waiting for a second opinion.”

Campbell has no concerns about David Montgomery’s availability after the veteran running back had to leave Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury. He could have come back to win over the Colts, Campbell said, but decided to play it safe.
