Why is Thanksgiving so late this year?

The delay began on February 29th when we added this extra day to the calendar. By combining Leap Year and Halloween on a Thursday, the dates were adjusted so that Thanksgiving would occur on the latest possible day, November 28th. This will not happen again until 2030.

The earliest Halloween can fall on is November 22nd. The next time we have an early Thanksgiving will be November 22, 2029. That’s why we have the earliest Thanksgiving in 2029, followed by the latest Thanksgiving in 2030.
