The pharmacy giant, founded in 1901, announced last year that for the first time in the company’s history, a majority of its stores would remain closed on Thanksgiving Day.

According to a spokesperson, the groundbreaking decision to close on Thanksgiving was to give Walgreens team members time with their loved ones on the holiday.

“We have heard time and time again from our team members – who are the face of Walgreens – that taking time off is a meaningful way for us to show we value them,” said Tracey D. Brown, EVP, president of Walgreens retail and Chief Customer Officer. in a 2023 press release.

In 2024, Walgreens will be closed again on Thanksgiving with an exception of its 24-hour locations, which remain open for customer service.

Like many other retailers closing for the holiday, Walgreens will reopen for regular business hours on Friday morning, November 28th.
