Steve Spurrier picks Texas A&M to upset Texas

The SEC has been turned on its head more than once in recent weeks – and Steve Spurrier has predicted it will happen again in the final week of the regular season.

When choosing the highly anticipated duel between Texas And Texas A&M In Week 14, Ole Ball coach announced he was picking the Aggies to pull off an upset in College Station.

“I’m going to go with the surprise – A&M. With 110,000 (fans), it’s one of the largest baseball stadiums in the country,” Spurrier said during the event Another well-known Dooley podcast. “And now they’re screaming and screaming. Jimbo (Fisher) couldn’t make them scream, they do now. So it’s A&M’s home-field advantage, so I’m kind of taking A&M with me.”

An Aggie win would further shake up the SEC Championship and, in turn, the College Football Playoff, as the Longhorns are the only one-loss team in the conference.

However, the early betting lines in Vegas disagree with Spurrier. Texas is a touchdown favorite over the Aggies at Kyle Field heading into game week.

Given that the Aggies suffered a tough road loss to Auburn in four overtimes in Week 13, many see the Longhorns as favorites in the season finale. Especially considering that a Texas win would send the Longhorns to the SEC Championship, effectively clinching them a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Their path becomes a little more uncertain when Spurrier’s prediction comes true.

However, in Spurrier’s view, College Station offers one of the most hostile environments for teams to enter. With over 100,000 fans in attendance and wanting nothing more than to ruin Texas’ season, the Aggies don’t see their home stadium as the last stop on the Longhorns’ road to Atlanta.

Add the rivalry factor and the game becomes even more complicated. This is the first meeting between Texas A&M and Texas since the Aggies moved to the SEC after the 2011 season. Nicknamed the “Lone Star Showdown,” the Longhorns lead the all-time series 76-37-5.

Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET live on ABC.
