Memphis football has a chance to make a statement on a national level.

But while the Tigers (9-2, 5-2 AAC) have 10 wins against Tulane (9-2, 7-0) on Thursday night, they won’t be going to the AAC title game. The Green Wave can secure home-field advantage for the AAC title game if they beat Memphis on Thursday.

Memphis saw its conference title hopes dashed after losses to Navy and UTSA, but the Tigers will close out the regular season with Thursday’s game against Tulane. Memphis hasn’t beaten Tulane since 2016 in New Orleans.

The Tigers also enter the game as two-touchdown underdogs – the first conference game with such a spread in more than a decade.

Anderson rushed for a 47-yard touchdown to give Memphis a 34-17 lead.

The Tigers defense takes control with takeaways

Tulane had chances to take the lead, but Memphis had back-to-back takeaways. First, Kourtlan Marsh forced a fumble and recovered it. Then Davion Ross intercepted Darian Mensah.

Desrosiers caught a pass out of the backfield on third down, evaded the entire Tulane defense and raced for an electrifying 25-yard touchdown that gave Memphis the lead.

Darian Mensah helps Tulane take the lead

The Green Wave settled for a field goal on their first drive, but tied it with a touchdown later in the quarter. Darian Mensah drove Tulane down the field and then connected with Mario Williams for a 7-yard touchdown.

Memphis gets the ball and scores first

The Tigers converted two crucial third downs to break the field and strike first. Seth Henigan converted the first possession with a 43-yard completion to Roc Taylor, then found Greg Desrosiers for a 17-yard touchdown that gave the Tigers an early lead.
