Who is QB1 for the New York Giants? Brian Daboll doesn’t know

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll was noncommittal on Thursday night about whether Tommy DeVito or Drew Lock would be at quarterback for the Giants when they return to action in Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints.

Daboll said DeVito, who missed Thursday’s 27-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys with a right (throwing) forearm injury, would “probably” be ready to play by then.

Daboll said DeVito has a “pretty swollen arm” but it’s not a serious injury that should keep him out long-term.

He said the Giants knew Wednesday that Devito “probably wouldn’t be able to play” against Dallas.

DeVito said with his arm, “Structurally everything is fine.” Because of the short week, he simply didn’t have time to prepare and he thought he could have played if the game had been played on Sunday.

So who will start at MetLife Stadium in Week 14?

“We’ve only just gotten around to playing here,” Daboll said. “We have a few days here. We’ll go back and watch this game.

“I thought Drew did some good things and then two big turnovers…there can’t be turnovers like that. We have to take care of the ball. It’s important to take care of the ball. But I did some nice things.”

Lock completed 21 of 32 passes for 178 yards and ran four times for 57 yards and a touchdown on four carries. He led the Giants to 20 points, two touchdowns and two field goals. The Giants scored just 7 points with DeVito at quarterback on Sunday against the Buccaneers.

Lock said he had “nothing but fun” in his first start as a Giant.

“You get upset when you lose, but it’s just fun. You love football. You love coming here and playing on Thanksgiving,” Lock said. “You want to win. Upset that we didn’t do it. There were a few things we could have done better. But I won’t forget the last 24 hours. Great opportunity to come and play here. I wish we could have done it. But I was very excited when I was told I was playing and coming here to try and get a win.”

Did he think he had done enough to move on?

“You know, I’m not thinking about that right now. I leave the room, get on the plane and watch the tape to see what I could have done better. Learn from it. Grow,” Lock said. “If the opportunity comes again, be ready to play and play better than we did today.”
