NFL 2024 Thanksgiving results and highlights: Detroit Lions survive Chicago Bears scare as Dallas Cowboys beat New York Giants | NFL News

Jared Goff threw two touchdown passes to Sam LaPorta before Chicago was guilty of terrible clock management as the Detroit Lions beat the Bears 23-20 on Thursday, ending their seven-game Thanksgiving losing streak.

Chicago threatened to take the game into overtime after entering Lions territory and having a chance to score a game-winning field goal. Caleb Williams and the Bears’ offense found themselves on the Lions’ 41st with a timeout and 32 seconds remaining. They wasted valuable seconds before the freshman quarterback threw an incomplete pass as time expired to put the game on ice for Detroit.

No. 1 pick Williams overcame a grueling first half, finishing 20 of 39 for 256 yards, two touchdown passes to Keenan Allen and one to DJ Moore, as the Bears came back from 16-0 and then 23-7 to get to Detroit came within three points.

However, Goff and the Lions held on for their 10th straight win and improved to 11-1 on the year, with their quarterback completing 21 of 34 passes for 221 yards. Chicago has now lost six in a row and is now 4-8.

With three minutes left, the Lions took a 16-0 lead after three field goals by Jake Bates and LaPorta’s three-yard touchdown catch that capped a 10-play, 90-yard drive. Detroit racked up 279 yards of offense in the first half, compared to just 53 for the Bears.

Goff hit LaPorta again late in the third quarter with a 1-yard scoring strike for a 23-7 lead. This rounded off a drive in which Jameson Williams had spectacularly overtaken Kevin Byard.

Williams showed significant improvement in the second half, sparking a Bears comeback with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Allen after taking a nasty hit to linebacker Jack Campbell’s legs on an earlier run.

New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys highlights from Week 13 of the NFL season

DeMarvion Overshown returned an interception 23 yards for a touchdown, Rico Dowdle ran for a score in his first 100-yard game of his career, and the Dallas Cowboys cruised to a 27-20 victory over the New York Giants.

Cooper Rush threw a touchdown pass while Dowdle finished with 112 yards, ending a six-game home losing streak for the Cowboys (5-7) dating back to a wild-card loss to Green Bay last season.

Drew Lock, starting in place of the injured Tommy DeVito a week after the benching and subsequent firing of Daniel Jones, lost a fumble after Overshown’s pick-six, marking the Giants’ seventh straight loss (2-10).

Lock ran for 57 yards and a touchdown late in the game to prevent New York’s eighth straight loss to its NFC East rival.

The Giants had their first lead since Week Five before Overshown’s dynamic play put Dallas back in the lead for good in the second quarter.

Leading 7-6, Lock tried to throw a screen pass to Devin Singletary after the running back was overwhelmed trying to block Overshown. The second-year linebacker redirected the pass into the air toward the end zone, used his speed to knock it off and scored untouched.

Overshown also recovered Lock’s fumble on the first possession of the second half and set up Rush’s two-yard touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks, giving Dallas its second straight win after a five-game losing streak.

The Chicago Bears quarterback caught Keenan Allen with a perfect throw after blocking a big hit the game before

Rush, now 2-2 this season with Dak Prescott out this year with a torn hamstring, threw the game-winning pass to Cooks after the quarterback’s apparent fumble into the end zone was overturned on review.

Cooks, who sealed the win with a diving first-down catch in the final two minutes, played for the first time since Dallas’ 20-15 victory over the Giants in Week Four.

Dowdle had 46 yards rushing in the first quarter after his longest carry of the season, a 22-yarder. The Dallas offense stalled after two efficient drives, but a suddenly opportunistic defense kept the Cowboys in the lead.

Lock, who was sacked six times, scored New York’s first touchdown with a 28-yard scramble and another 21-yarder before scoring his 8-yard touchdown with 2:18 left.
