The best Black Friday LEGO deals on large sets for adult collectors

LEGO deals abound on Black Friday. I mean, there are literally hundreds of LEGOs on sale aimed at kids, children and adults of all ages. What interests me, however, are them large LEGO sets. These are the ones where the number of bricks is in the thousands, where the construction process can take hours, and which are worth installing in the most prominent place in your room. Unfortunately, these are also the most expensive sets.

Black Friday is hands down the best way to save literally hundreds of dollars on a single LEGO set. We’ve seen vendors give us great deals on individual sets, but they seem to expire quickly. Some examples include Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series sets like Razor Crest or Landspeeder, Marvel Spider-Man’s Daily Bugle or LEGO Art Amazing Spider-Man, or incredibly complicated builds like the Technic Liebherr Crawler. Remember that these deals end in a flash and are one-off. If you see a set that you like or that would be a perfect gift for a loved one, don’t hesitate to purchase it as soon as possible. Otherwise, you may have to wait until next Black Friday.

LEGO Marvel Spider-Man Daily Bugle 76178

The LEGO Spider-Man Daily Bugle 76178 is LEGO’s third largest Marvel set of all time and contains 25 iconic minifigures from the Spider-Man universe. This is another impressively large building, measuring 32 inches high, 10 inches wide, and 10 inches deep, with a brick count of 3,789 pieces. This is a four-story replica of the famous newspaper building, including the offices of sophisticated editor J. Jonah Jameson and budding photographer Peter Parker. The minifigure collection includes Doctor Octopus, Spider-Man, Venom, Miles Morales, Spider-Ham, Green Goblin, Peter Parker, Spider-Gwen, Mysterio, Sandman, Robbie Robertson and even some characters unique to this set, like Blade, the Vampire Hunter, J. Normally these types of builds are intended for presentation and leave very little room for personal creativity, but things are different with the Daily Bugle. Characters and building design elements can be moved around, allowing you to recreate your own mini-stories and customize the action in and around the Daily Bugle. It complements the LEGO Avengers Tower, which is very similar in scale but is currently far more expensive.

LEGO Art sets are interesting because they are usually 2D sets with 3D elements that are intended to be mounted on the wall and displayed as a work of art. The Amazing Spider-Man is one such example. This is one of the larger LEGO Art sets and weighs 2,099 bricks (including the LEGO points). Spider-Man is himself the 3D element. His body is a second layer over the LEGO dots and his hands grip the “frame” of the image, literally breaking the fourth wall. As a tribute to the comic, LEGO placed fifteen spiders in the image, representing issue #1. 15 of Amazing Fantasy, in which Spider-Man first appeared in August 1962. How cool is that?

I give respect to any die-hard LEGO enthusiast who buys this LEGO Technic set with the intention of building it. The LEGO Techno construction vehicle sets are some of the most complicated that LEGO offers and they are definitely not for the faint of heart. This particular model consists of “only” 2,883 pieces, which seems small considering the hefty retail price of $700. That’s mainly because it’s a motorized LEGO set that includes two smart hubs and six large motors to power the joint functions via an app on your smartphone. This is also one of the tallest LEGO sets, standing at 38 inches tall from top to bottom. This set is offered for sale rarely and only on special occasions like Black Friday or Prime Day.
