Whether you like it or not, the holiday season is just around the corner.

Radio stations are playing Christmas music, stores are overflowing with Christmas products, and Halloween candy has quickly been replaced by candy canes and Reese’s trees.

Of course, the Christmas season begins on Black Friday.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving and the first day of the holiday shopping season.

During the heyday of brick-and-mortar stores, shoppers could enjoy incredible discounts from retailers. People looked at the ads in the Thanksgiving newspaper and then planned their purchases for the next day.

Retailers capitalized on the popularity of the sales to offer great deals and freebies to the first shoppers who opened the door. With sales and giveaways, shoppers lined up and waited for the doors to open.

Retailers have started delaying store openings until midnight on Friday – so as not to disrupt people’s Thanksgiving holiday. Eventually, many stores began opening on Thanksgiving evening.

However, with the development of online retail and the decline of brick-and-mortar retail, Black Friday began to lose its luster.

Which stores are open on Thanksgiving and Black Friday?

Goal: All Target stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Shops open at 6 a.m. on Friday. Shops will be open from 7am to midnight from November 30th to December 24th. 23.
Walmart: Walmart will be closed on Thanksgiving. Shops open at 6 a.m. on Friday.
Home Depot: Home Depot will be closed on Thanksgiving but will open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday.
Lowes: Lowes will be closed on Thanksgiving but will open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday.
Ace hardware: Each store is independently owned, but most stores will be closed on Thanksgiving.
Costco: Costco will be closed on Thanksgiving but will reopen at 9 a.m. Friday
Kohl’s: Kohl’s will be closed on Thanksgiving and will reopen Friday with Black Friday events, giveaways and sweepstakes, the retailer said in a news release.
TJ Maxx: TJ Maxx is closed on Thanksgiving but will reopen at 7 a.m. on Black Friday.
Marshall’s: Marshall’s is closed on Thanksgiving but reopens at 7 a.m. on Black Friday.
HomeGoods: HomeGoods is closed on Thanksgiving but will reopen at 7 a.m. on Black Friday.
JCPenney: JCPenney will be closed on Thanksgiving but will reopen at 5 a.m. on Black Friday.
Nordstrom: Nordstrom will be closed on Thanksgiving and open early on Black Friday.
Cabela’s: Cabela’s is open on Thanksgiving from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Black Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Barnes & Noble: Barnes & Noble will be closed on Thanksgiving. Customers are advised to check with their local store for Black Friday opening hours
Tractor Supply Co.: Tractor Supply Co. will be closed on Thanksgiving and open on Black Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Petco: Petco will be closed on Thanksgiving and will reopen at 8 a.m. on Black Friday.
PetSmart: PetSmart will be closed on Thanksgiving.
Staples: Staples will be closed on Thanksgiving and will open at 9 a.m. on Black Friday.
Office Depot/Office Max: Office Depot and Office Max will be closed on Thanksgiving and will reopen regular hours on Black Friday.
