How to watch Ben Stiller’s Nutcracker, filmed in Ohio

Ohio and parts of Cincinnati will hit the big screen this week… well, sort of.

A new holiday comedy starring actor and comedian Ben Stiller, Linda Cardellini and Ari Graynor is coming to Hulu on Friday. The film was shot earlier this year in Ohio and parts of the Greater Cincinnati area.

“Nutcracker” was produced in Ohio earlier this year. Stiller plays the work-obsessed Mike, who must “reluctantly travel to rural Ohio” to care for his four nephews (real-life siblings Homer, Ulysses, Atlas and Arlo Janson) after their parents die in a car accident.

According to 91.7 (WVXU-FM), the film was filmed on the four young brothers’ farm in Ohio. According to Deadline, director David Gordon Green is friends with the boys’ mother from film school and based the film on her life.

While most of “The Nutcracker” was reportedly filmed in and around Blanchester, a village about 40 miles northeast of Cincinnati, some scenes were also filmed at the Murphy Theater, Indian Hill and Stricker’s Grover amusement park near Ross, WVXU reports.

Stiller posted a photo of himself in front of the Clinton County History Center in Wilmington on Jan. 11. The center’s sign featured a personal message to Stiller that referenced his beloved “Night at the Museum” franchise. It said: “Ben – we’re ready for Night at the Museum 4. How about you?”

The actor responded to the center’s signage on social media: “Thank you to everyone in Wilmington for your kindness and generosity. I enjoyed filming here!” he wrote. “And thank you to (The Murphy Theater)! Check it out, it’s a beautiful theater with a lot of history. And yes (Clinton County History Center), let’s pick #4!”
