Costco shoppers who recently purchased 24-count organic pasture-raised eggs sold under the Kirkland Signature brand name should check their refrigerators. Handsome Brook Farms, which produces the eggs for Costco, is voluntarily recalling 10,800 retail stores because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

The eggs were distributed to 25 Costco stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee starting November 22, 2024. According to a company release, Handsome Brook Farms initiated the recall “after the company determined that the eggs not intended for retail distribution were instead packaged and distributed in retail packaging.”

This comes after the Food and Drug Administration upgraded the ongoing egg recalls to Class I, the most serious type. At the time of writing, no illnesses have been reported associated with the Kirkland eggs.

How to determine if your Costco eggs have been recalled

The organic grass-fed eggs (24 pieces) are marked with UPC 9661910680 and Julian code 327 on the side of the egg carton, with a best before date of January 5, 2025. They are packaged in plastic egg cartons marked with the Kirkland signature the tip is provided. It is important to note that no other products are affected by this recall. A photo of the label and package codes page can be found on the FDA recall page.

What to do if you purchased the recalled Kirkland brand eggs?

Do not consume the eggs or foods prepared with the eggs. Customers can return the eggs to a local Costco for a refund or discard them. Questions can be directed to Handsome Brook Farms by calling 646-733-4532, ext. 1, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST, or email [email protected].
