Earlier this month we published The Pitch’s annual Best of Kansas City output. Take a look at the results of the reader survey Here. The issue also included a list, curated and written by our editorial team, of some of the locals, places and things that we think clearly won in 2024. We will be publishing these articles online throughout November.

Here we are again, raving about how Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are the best in the world. Well, they are, or at least they have been for two years. As the team begins the 2024-25 season as back-to-back Super Bowl champions, it’s time to face the truth: The Chiefs are a dynasty.

When Mahomes became the starting quarterback in 2018, he threw for 5,097 yards, 50 TDs and just 12 INTs and was later crowned MVP of the 2018 season. Even though the team lost to Tom Brady and the Patriots in the AFC Championship that year, he was still the MVP in the eyes of Kansas Cityians. And there was a persistent feeling that we would soon get a second Super Bowl victory.

Six years later, the Chiefs have won three Super Bowls under Mahomes’ reign and show no signs of slowing down. After a 10-1 start to the 2024-25 season, the team and the city are hoping another Super Bowl ring is on the horizon. The Dreipeat is nearby and the locals are aware of it. As the season continues, we can only hope that the Red Kingdom becomes the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowl championships. Tom Brady can’t say he did that.
