In Prague on the hunt for their third Champions League victory

PREVIEW | SPARTA PRAHA VS. ATLETIC DE MADRID

After beating PSG in Paris on the final day of the league phase, Atlético are now looking for three more points to climb up the table.

Atlético de Madrid will be looking to build on their 2-1 win from their last game in Paris, secured by goals from Molina and Correa. The Rojiblancos go into matchday 5 in 23rd place in the league phase table, just behind the play-off places. However, they will be looking for another win to continue their promotion in the new-look format of Europe’s premier club competition.

This is the first time that Sparta Prague and Atlético de Madrid will meet in European football. However, the Czech team has already faced Spanish rivals in both the Champions League and Europa League and will now host the first meeting between the two teams at the Letná Stadium in Prague.

In their last appearance in the Champions League, Sparta suffered a 2-1 home defeat against surprise team Stade Brestois. After a big 3-0 win over Salzburg on matchday one, the Czech giants drew in Germany against VfB Stuttgart (1-1) before suffering a resounding 5-0 defeat at Manchester City.

After defeating RB Leipzig 2-1 at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on matchday one, the Rojiblancos lost two games in a row against Benfica in Lisbon (4-0) and then at home against LOSC Lille (3-1). The 2-1 win against PSG in Paris will certainly have given the team new confidence. Diego Pablo Simeone will have Giménez available in Prague after the Uruguayan missed the trip to France due to a suspension for too many yellow cards.
