Will ASU secure the title with a win?

ASU Football cannot secure a victory in a Big 12 title game with a Territory Cup victory as it is still waiting for an outside win in its favor.

Entering Saturday, Arizona State needed a win from at least one of the following teams to advance to the Big 12 tiebreakers: Kansas (at Baylor), West Virginia (at Texas Tech), TCU (at Cincinnati), No. 24 Kansas State (at No. 18 Iowa State) or No. 19 BYU (vs. Houston).

Kansas and West Virginia both lost in the early window as underdogs.

The Jayhawks were playing for their bowl lives with a record of 5-6 entering the day, while the Mountaineers had already won a bowl at 6-5.

With the victory over Kansas, Baylor maintained its underdog role in the title game.

What other Big 12 games impact ASU’s title chances?

Kansas State and Iowa State begin shortly after the Territorial Cup at 5:30 p.m. MST on FOX. BYU and Houston last compete at 8:15 p.m. on ESPN.

The only way ASU can come through with a BYU loss is if TCU beats Cincinnati and the game starts at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.

First things first, though, is a massive rivalry game against a very talented team that has won the last two iterations and is coming off a stunning victory in 2023.

Watch the Territorial Cup, starting at 1:30 p.m. MST, on 98.7 FM, on the Arizona Sports app or online.
