Al Michaels bizarrely compares Chiefs TE Roommate Noah Gray to Aaron Hernandez and the New England Patriots

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Noah Grey receives praise for his talents, but perhaps not the kind he desires. After Patrick Mahomes When Gray threw an incomplete pass to Gray on Friday, legendary play-by-play sportscaster Al Michaels made an unusual comparison.

“I’m thinking about using the two tight ends. It reminds me of when Bill Belichick had (Rob) Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez,” Michaels said. “He kind of changed everything. I ran the offense through those two guys about a decade ago.”

Michaels’ broadcast partner Kirk Herbstreit didn’t let the audience linger too long on the comparison to Hernandez, immediately emphasizing that the comparison was simply about how the Chiefs utilize Gray’s abilities.

“The way Gray is running, you’re right,” Herbstreit said. “As good as those receivers around him are getting. (Xavier) Worthy is coming. (DeAndre) Hopkins comes over in a trade. JuJu Smith-Schuster, we know what he can do.

“But with the way Noah Gray has looked, especially over the last few weeks, that’s another great option for them, and you can put Gray in the backfield as well.”

While no one wants to hear his name in the same sentence as convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez, Michaels’ words were a compliment. Gray has been a big contributor for the Chiefs this season, coming into Friday’s game with 27 catches for 315 yards and four touchdowns.

Gray’s 315 receiving yards are the third-most on the team this season. Fellow tight end Travis Kelce leads the team with 569. As Michaels mentioned, Gray and Kelce have been a handful for teams this season as they were two top tight ends.

This is Noah Gray’s fourth season in the NFL, spent exclusively with the Chiefs. He has already racked up more yards, receptions and touchdowns this season than in any of his previous seasons. Now entering the second half of the season, Gray will try to give Michaels more reasons to continue complimenting him.
