Chad Michael Murray is best known as an early 2000s heartthrob who made a name for himself with teen romantic comedies A Cinderella story And Crazy Fridayas well as shows like Gilmore Girls And A tree hillbut these days the actor is happiest in the role of dad.

In January 2015, Murray announced his marriage to fellow actress Sarah Roemer. Additionally, the couple confirmed that they were expecting their first child together, a son, who was born later this year. They have since added two more children to their family, a daughter born in 2017 and a second daughter born in 2023.

Before the birth of his eldest daughter, Murray said Entertainment tonight that having a family “just changes the way you look at everything.”

He explained: “It was the greatest thing that ever happened to me. I mean, having kids is easy, it’s a game changer. I think you always walk around with the mentality that you want to make sure they’re proud and represent them well. Just be a great leader.”

While Roemer appears to have put her acting career on hold, Murray is still looking for jobs – but that doesn’t mean he’s leaving The Pack at home. The actor told diversity in November 2024 that his wife and children will accompany him to every performance.

“I want to be there,” Murray explained, referring to his presence in his children’s lives.

Murray coaches his son’s sports teams

For the actor’s 2023 show Sullivan’s Crossingthe family moved to Nova Scotia, Canada. Murray reflected on their big move and how they had settled in Etalk that he had coached his son’s sports team.

“I coached little league soccer with my son and all the kids that came, and we just had a camaraderie,” he said. Murray also shared footage of his son, born in 2015, playing on social media.

Murray loves spending time with his daughters

Murray and Roemer’s first daughter was born in 2017 and their second followed in 2023. The couple shares photos of their children with their faces covered on social media to protect their daughters’ privacy while showcasing the family’s close bond.

In 2022, Murray shared his fatherly pride on Instagram. “When your little girl jumps out of a tree and seamlessly rolls it into her favorite superhero pose 😂😂😂 #GirlDad #GirlDadAndDangProudOfIt, I just wish I was as cool as her 😎,” he wrote in the caption.

Murray and Roemer also opened up about their younger daughter, including a sweet personal quirk: She has a heart-shaped birthmark on her ankle.

Roemer teaches the children at home while on the road

Because the family travels for Murray’s work, the young family also has to attend school while on the road. On Mother’s Day in 2023, Murray thanked his wife – whom he called his “forever dream woman” – on Instagram for her support of the family.

“We travel the world together and without you it wouldn’t be possible. Homeschooling, pop quizzes, meals and every other mommy task you can imagine,” he wrote.

Murray also added that Mother’s Day became a new holiday for him after he had his own children: “Growing up, I never celebrated Mother’s Day because I didn’t have a mother – but watching the selflessness and sacrifice that “You can bring me away without ever batting an eyelash, blew me away and really show me why mothers are like no other.”

They have a “musical” household

Murray’s family loves getting creative with music. During the holiday season in 2023, Roemer shared how her children enjoy composing songs around the house.

“I woke up to this little forest princess singing with the Christmas tree and made a video,” she wrote on Instagram. “We make up songs every day. Our house turns into a musical when there are no people there :)”

Murray’s children help him decorate the house for Christmas

In an interview in 2023 with Parade MagazineMurray compared himself to Clark Griswold, the famous character from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

“I absolutely love it,” the actor explained over the holidays. “The kids go out with me, we listen to Christmas music, get the house ready. And that’s what we do over the course of the holiday season. It’s almost like it’s always a work in progress and never a finished product.”

At the end of the season, Murray says it’s almost “too much,” but it’s clear the family loves getting in the mood together.
