ASU Football beats Arizona and looks for help in Big 12 title hunt

Running back Cam Skattebo rushed for 177 yards and scored three touchdowns as No. 16 Arizona State beat Arizona to a 49-7 victory in the 98th Territorial Cup on Saturday.

With the win, ASU will now do the same Wait and see if it’s enough to reach the Big 12 Championship Game. After Baylor beat Kansas and Texas Tech against West Virginia the previous Saturday, There are now three scenarios in which ASU could pull it off.

The victory was ASU’s first Territory Cup win since 2021 and its first win in Tucson since its 70-7 victory in 2020. The Wildcats had won the previous two meetings, including 59-23 in Tempe in 2023.

Scenarios of the 12 major championship games following the Territorial Cup

Arizona State would clinch a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game with a TCU win over Cincinnati or a BYU win over Houston.

There’s a scenario where Arizona State could still miss the Big 12 title game despite Saturday’s win.

If Cincinnati beats TCU and BYU loses, the Sun Devils will be left out for Colorado against Iowa State.

If Iowa State loses to Kansas State and BYU beats Houston, ASU and BYU will meet in the championship game.

A BYU loss and TCU win against Cincinnati would see Arizona State and Colorado face off in the Big 12 title game.

If ASU, BYU, Iowa State and Colorado finish tied at 7-2 in conference play, ASU and Iowa State will meet in the Big 12 title game.
