Bayern Munich vs. PSG forecast, odds, betting tips and the best bets for the Champions League game

Two teams that are clearly underperforming in European competition will need a decisive win when Bayern Munich and PSG take on Bayern in the revamped Champions League.

In the first half of the league phase, these two European giants have managed just three wins in eight games between them, with Bayern in 17th place in the overall table and PSG in 25th place facing even worse circumstances.

Only the best eight teams in the final standings are allowed to move straight into the round of 16, while the next 16 have to play a playoff round and the last eight teams are eliminated immediately. That means Bayern are well off the pace for a clear bye, while PSG currently occupy the first elimination spot.

Both clubs are well ahead in their domestic league tables, but these achievements pale in comparison to the European game, with both coaches knowing that an early exit from the Champions League would significantly jeopardize their job security.

Prediction Bayern Munich vs. PSG, odds

  • Moneyline Lean: Bayern Munich (-175 on BetMGM)
  • Result prediction: Bayern Munich 2:1 PSG

Bayern had the same number as PSG in their numerous Champions League games, even though the French had some of the best attacking stars in the world.

Tuesday’s hosts have won six of their last eight all-time meetings, dating back to September 2017. Furthermore, of those six Bayern Munich victories, PSG was shut out in four of them and only scored a total of two goals in those defeats, with a three-goal lead securing both victories.

At this point, Bayern are simply a more complete team, and although both teams see their biggest weaknesses in midfield, Josh Kimmich and Leon Goretzka should manage to manage the game effectively.

Dayot Upamecano was known for a number of high-profile defensive blunders last year and his partnership with Kim Min-Jae has not yet developed into one of Europe’s best as was thought, but the Bayern Munich defense has quietly suffered a blow, strong form trend.

Since the embarrassing 4-1 defeat against Barcelona at the end of October, Bayern Munich have not conceded a single goal in their last six games across all competitions. Not all goals conceded are created equal, but these are well deserved by the team – they have only allowed 26 shots in total in these six games, including one astonishing one a total of six attempts in the last three games, meaning Benfica only suffered a poor attempt in their last Champions League game.

Turning things around, PSG have somehow managed to deny their opponents the fewest number of shots of any team in the Champions League so far. Even if this doesn’t result in any success on the goalscoring charts, it suggests that Bayern may not experience the joy in front of goal that they are used to.

While Michael Olise’s form has dipped somewhat at the start of the season, this is not the case for Jamal Musiala. The German prodigy has been electric in recent weeks, even amid the October doldrums as the rest of his team faltered around him.

Musiala scored in two of his last four league games and scored the team’s only goal in a 1-0 Champions League win over Benfica. While he was playing hard against FC Augsburg at the weekend, he ripped off a madman TEN Total number of shots without hitting the target and he had four against Benfica while benefiting from this. He even scored a goal for Germany during the recent international break, one of many in the 7-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The 21-year-old is +180 goals at any time, but given his added creative influence (2.38 xA in the Bundesliga game plus two assists against Dinamo Zagreb in Bayern’s Champions League opener), the goal on the return in one is worth it Game where it might be a little more difficult to score goals than the odds suggest.
