Bears DC reveals how Montez Sweat was ‘reset’ to end sack drought

Montez Sweat is working to overcome his recent struggles with the Chicago Bears defense. He took some baby steps with his Week 12 performance.

Before a Week 13 game against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day, the Bears’ coaching staff unveiled a plan to get Sweat back on track, according to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.

“Last week, Bears DC’s Eric Washington said Montez Sweat may need to “reset” and “reestablish” his fundamentals to get out of the rut he’s been in since Week 8 without a sack.”

“Against the Vikings, Sweat had a season-high pressure of 6 and his fastest start of the season. Washington: “Not just with his exit, but also with his attack angles. Because these things are tighter, the defense is under pressure right now and he has a chance to counter and do some things to the point of helping the inside rushers. He embraced it and took it to heart, especially when we judged him and the entire crew. And he knows we need him to do special things and he has really excelled.”

Sweat had a strong performance in the 30-27 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 12. It’s clear that the coaching staff believes in what they will accomplish for the Bears down the road, and they did a great job of staying on top of last week’s problems.
