Best in Show, other winners from Philadelphia

In addition to parades, food and football, another Thanksgiving tradition is the National Dog Show in Philadelphia.

For the 92nd consecutive year, breeds of all types gather to compete for the coveted title of Best in Show and the $20,000 grand prize that comes with it. However, before they can earn this title, they must first compete with dogs of their own breed for the title of Best in Breed.

Longtime anchors John O’Hurley and David Frei reprise their roles in NBC’s television coverage of the event at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pennsylvania. (The contest is also available on NBC’s Peacock streaming service.)

What new breed will be participating in the 2024 National Dog Show?

In 2023, 199 breeds were represented at the Thanksgiving Day Dog Show. In 2024, a new breed will make its debut alongside 204 others.

Recognized as an official breed in the United Kingdom since 1981, the Lancashire Heeler was added to the AKC’s official dog breed list in early 2024 and will make its debut at the National Dog Show this Thursday as part of the herding group.
