Here’s an NBA story from the Associated Press:

The NBA Cup has its first quarterfinalist: Golden State is in the round of 16. And on Tuesday evening the tournament continues with five more group games as the title game draws closer on December 17 in Las Vegas.

The NBA Cup was designated an in-season tournament when it debuted last year after years of commissioner Adam Silver trying to add something special to the regular season. All 30 teams take part and play four group games.

From there, eight teams advance to the quarterfinals, and the winners of those games travel to the semifinals in Las Vegas on December 14th.

The Warriors are 3-0 in West Group C and have secured automatic entry into the quarterfinals of this group. New Orleans – a semifinalist in the tournament last year – has been eliminated from the competition. Everyone else still has a chance, at least mathematically.

All games in the tournament – with the exception of the championship game – count towards the regular season standings and statistics. The championship game is considered an extra and is not part of the 82-game season of the two teams that reach the final.

Here’s how to watch

Next Friday’s “Black Friday” shopping holiday, ESPN and NBA TV will show five Cup games – totaling approximately 13 hours of coverage – with games starting at noon EST and lasting until 10 p.m

There will be quarterfinal doubleheaders, with two games on TNT on December 10; One will air on ESPN on December 11th, followed by another on TNT.

TNT will show the first Cup semifinal from Las Vegas on December 14 at 4:30 p.m., followed by the second semifinal at 8:30 p.m. on ABC.

The championship game takes place at 8:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ABC on December 17th.

As usual, local broadcasts will also be available when NBA rules allow.

Performances with the highest points

The best single-game scoring performances in this season’s NBA Cup.

60 – De’Aaron Fox, Sacramento vs. Minnesota, November 15

43 – Cam Thomas, Brooklyn in New York, November 15

40 – Tyler Herro, Miami at Detroit, November 12

More triple doubles

Last season there were four triple-doubles in NBA Cup games (Domantas Sabonis had two, Nikola Jokic had one and Tyrese Haliburton had one). There have already been seven Cup games this season (Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Russell Westbrook, LeBron James, Jalen Johnson, Josh Hart and Alperen Sengun all have one).

Bulls don’t wait any longer

Chicago picked up its first-ever NBA Cup win on Friday night, edging Atlanta to move to 1-5 in tournament play. This makes Washington and Memphis (both 0-6) the only clubs that have not yet won a cup game.

Warriors win close games

Golden State’s three closest wins this season: 120-117 over Dallas, 112-108 over New Orleans and 123-118 over Memphis. All three took part in NBA Cup games.

What is at stake?

To the winners: pride, a trophy and money.

Players on the winning team will each receive $514,971, while $205,988 will go to each player on the runner-up, $102,994 to players whose teams lost in the semifinals, and $51,497 to the players whose teams lost in the quarterfinals have lost.

What you should know

If teams are eliminated in group play, two additional games will be added to their schedule. If teams are eliminated in the quarterfinals, another game will be added to them.

All teams have only 80 games scheduled so far in the regular season, but will play 82. That’s why the title game doesn’t count; For these teams, it would be the 83rd game (the 80 games already scheduled, then the quarterfinals, then the semifinals, that’s their 82 games).

Not every game played over the next month will be a tournament game. This is how you can quickly tell whether it is a tournament game: Each team has a new, distinctive place for these games. When you see these pitches you will know it is a cup game.
