Contract offers for Juan Soto as a free agent

According to Morosi, the five teams are the Mets, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Dodgers and the reigning Yankees.

Soto previously met personally with officials from each of these five clubs, although the meetings were believed to be introductory in nature and no team made contract offers at this stage.

The exact details of the offers Soto received are not known, but he is expected to complete one of the largest deals in baseball history.

Soto is a rarity among free agents, as he first hit the open market at a much younger age than the typical player. He turned 26 on October 25th.

The left-handed slugger, who made his MLB debut with the Nationals as a 19-year-old in 2018, is on a path to the Hall of Fame. He joins Jimmie Foxx, Mickey Mantle, Eddie Mathews, Mel Ott, Albert Pujols and Mike Trout as one of seven players in MLB history to record at least 200 home runs with an OPS+ of 150 or higher in their age-25 season have.

Soto is coming off one of his best seasons, hitting .288 with 41 home runs, 109 RBIs, 128 runs scored, 129 walks, an OPS of .989 and an OPS+ of 178 in 157 games for the Yankees, who acquired him from the Padres in 1990 took on a blockbuster trade last December. That performance earned him a third-place finish in American League MVP Award voting – the results of which were announced last week – behind his 2024 Yankees teammate Aaron Judge and Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.

Soto posted a 1.102 OPS with four home runs in the postseason, including a three-run blast in the 10th inning of New York’s decisive AL Championship Series win over the Guardians that gave the Bronx Bombers their first AL pennant since 2009.
