Desperate Raiders sign former draft bust just 24 hours before Chiefs game

The Chiefs will face the Raiders on Black Friday as a standalone game in the NFL. There’s no question who the better team is, and Las Vegas proved that with a desperate move just 24 hours before the game.

They signed former Panthers second-round receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. from the practice squad to the active roster. He will start Friday after being released by the Panthers before the regular season.

After placing QB Gardner Minshew on the injured reserve list, the Raiders are now taking a look at Marshall with Aidan O’Connell.

There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with giving Marshall a chance. Chiefs general manager Brett Veach is a master at finding former high draft picks who left with their first team.

However, it only makes sense to move so late in the season if you are a bad team. The Raiders are currently expected to have the second pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, so they definitely qualify.

Meanwhile, Kansas City sits atop the AFC and is on track to secure home-field advantage once again. One organization is putting the finishing touches on an elite roster while the other is already looking ahead to next year.

Marshall’s best year was 2022 with 28 catches for 490 yards and a touchdown. He theoretically appears to be a downfield threat and has impressive physical attributes, but I’m not particularly interested if even Carolina doesn’t want you on the field.

We’ll see if the signing pays off, although it’s clear why the Chiefs are the heavy favorites.
