Dolphins RB De’Von Achane carries heavier workload with ease

Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane continues to thrive despite an increased workload.

The second-year defender has already surpassed his rookie numbers with 122 carries and 46 receptions in 10 games. While Achane struggled with injuries last season, he only had 103 runs and 27 catches in 11 games in 2023.

“I feel good,” Achane said this week, via the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “I’m just happy that I’m 100 percent healthy. I haven’t had any injuries like I did last season, so I’m just trying to keep going and make sure my body stays fit for the rest of the season.”

The eye-catching attacks may be less common after Achane averaged an absurd 7.8 yards per carry last year, but the 5-foot-10 fullback boasts a respectable 4.3 YPC average. He leads Miami with 530 rushing yards and three rushing TDs. He also leads the club with 46 catches and is third with three touchdowns.

The Week 11 win over the Raiders highlighted coach Mike McDaniel’s reliance on the second-year senior. Achane had 17 carries for 73 yards and a score while grabbing four grabs for 32 yards. Rookie Jaylen Wright had six touches (five carries). Raheem Mostert had three carries for -2 yards.

McDaniel said Achane’s productivity allowed him to stay on the field despite having other talented players in the squad.

“De’Von’s game deserved some extra moments that we expected would be a little more balanced,” the coach said. “He’s been playing really well, so we kind of rely on the hot hand in those situations, and I think he’s made it really difficult to take him off the field in game situations, especially the last two. “But we did Try to give the boys the opportunity to decide for us during the game how much playing time they get and to react appropriately.”
