WVU men’s basketball vs. Louisville game preview

Many predicted that WVU and Louisville would meet in the second round of the Battle 4 Atlantis, but not in the winner’s round.

Louisville beat No. 14 Indiana 89-61 on Wednesday morning, and soon after, WVU beat No. 3 Gonzaga 86-78 in overtime.

Both teams are led by first-year head coaches Darian DeVries and Pat Kelsey and both are looking to bounce back from last year’s single-digit win seasons.

Senior guard Reyne Smith (14.2 points per game) leads the Cardinals in scoring, as does Kasean Pryor (13 points per game), Terrence Edwards Jr. (11.4 points per game) and Chucky Hepburn (11.6 Points per game) are on average in the double-digit range in terms of scoring.

WVU rallied from a five-point deficit with less than 30 seconds left to beat No. 3 Gonzaga on Wednesday afternoon.

Oklahoma State transfer guard Javon Small led all scorers with 31 points. It was the second game in a row in which he scored the highest score of the season.
