A Home Depot shopper revealed a Black Friday find: a 270-piece tool set for under $100. But is it really the deal Home Depot is giving out? And is it really exclusive to Black Friday?

The video comes from Max (@maxkorzh1), whose TikTok bio describes him as “Max Handyman and Deal Finder in Charlotte, NC.” As of Black Friday morning, it had more than 1.1 million views. In it, he shows off the Husky tool kit while Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” plays.

The video’s caption reads, “Home Depot Deal!” The creator paused the video over the portion of the packaging that indicates it’s a $695 item. He then pans to the price of $99 and the sign explains that it is a “special buy” for the holidays.

The store’s website says the price was previously $199. It says: “The Husky 270-Piece 1/4-Inch, 3/8-Inch and 1/2-Inch Drive Mechanics Tool Set provides a comprehensive selection of tools for the professional or DIY workshop.”

How’s it going?

A review on the website Addicted 2 DIY, written by a self-proclaimed “DIY-obsessed wife and mother,” has good things to say about the set. However, it does include a note that the post was sponsored by Home Depot.

“It has pretty much everything you need, all in one easy-to-carry toolbox,” she enthuses. “We go camping several times a year and on most of these trips we take our quads and side-by-sides with us. Although we do our best to keep everything in the controlled environment of our garage, occasionally things need to be worked on.”

A June Garage Journal forum post revealed that the same set was for sale at a Home Depot. It was spotted in the wild for $99.

One respondent said, “I got the set starting at $99, but it went down several times, and every time it happened, I took my receipt and they refunded me the difference.” It could be around 59 US dollars landed. It was a thread about GJ, and I think a lot of GJ members understood it.”

Another, who claimed to have picked up a set for $59 at a post-Christmas sale, reported: “Not bad, but not the best.” The best part is that it’s nice to work with a toolbox that You know he has a pretty complete inventory of outlets. I was pretty careful about putting it away and I don’t think I’ve lost anything in a year and a half.”

Some commenters weren’t entirely sure that Home Depot spent $99 on the set.

“It’s always $99,” one claimed. “And I don’t know what universe you think that’s worth $700.”

“A real Black Friday deal would be $60,” said another.

“As someone who worked at Home Depot, it was always $99,” someone else contributed.

The flood of comments questioning pricing inspired the creator to write the “Marketing in Action” comment.
