Keenan Allen injury update: Bears WR severity revealed

Star wide receiver for the Chicago Bears Keenan Allen suffered an apparent ankle injury in the second half of the team’s Thanksgiving Day game against the Detroit Lions. Luckily the injury doesn’t appear to be serious.

On the following drive, when the Lions had the ball, the CBS broadcast provided an update on Allen’s status and announced that he would likely return.

“We saw Keenan Allen rolled up by his ankle and needed help getting to the blue tent,” Tracy Wolfson said. “They looked at him inside. They taped the ankle. He got out, ran a bit and got a thumbs up from the athletic trainers. It looks like he’s going back in after this ride.”

By the time Allen left the game, the Bears were trying to come from behind and upset the Lions. At the time of his exit, he had scored both of Chicago’s first two touchdowns in their comeback attempt.

Once Keenan Allen returned to the game, he made an impact with a catch on Chicago’s next touchdown drive. However, he was later assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for throwing a ball at an official when he was frustrated by a call without a face mask.

Before the Thanksgiving Day game, Allen had already made his impact on the Bears’ wide receiver unit clear. He entered the game with 39 receptions on 71 targets for 368 yards and three touchdowns.

This is Keenan Allen’s first season with the Chicago Bears and his first season in his career where he did not play for the Chargers, whether in San Diego or Los Angeles. A former third-round NFL draft pick Californiahe was named to the Pro Bowl six times.

It was a difficult season for Chicago as they entered the Thanksgiving Day game with a record of just 4-7. However, the apparently improved offensive play for the Bears is something they can build on for the rest of the season.
