Texas-Texas A&M is back on the college football menu for Thanksgiving weekend in 2024.

The No. 3 Longhorns (10-1, 6-1 SEC) will face the No. 19 Aggies (8-3, 5-2) in a game that will serve as the de facto SEC Championship semifinal game. It will be the first matchup between Texas and Texas A&M since 2011, with the winner set to face Georgia in the SEC Championship Game next weekend. Texas is coming off a 31-14 win over Kentucky last week, while Texas A&M is coming off a 43-41 loss to Auburn in four overtimes last week.

Texas leads the all-time series 76-37-5, including a 27-25 win over Texas A&M in 2011. The teams meet at 6:30 p.m. CT at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas.

Halftime: Texas 17, Texas A&M 0

Texas misses the field goal at the last second

Texas is unable to score a last-second field goal to make it 20-0 before halftime, as Bert Auburn’s 48-yard field goal missed all the way to the right of the goal. The Longhorns still hold a commanding 17-0 halftime lead and will be first on defense after halftime.

Texas A&M pivots on downturns

Texas A&M, desperately needing a score before halftime, tries to score on fourth-and-3 from the Texas 43-yard line. Marcel Reed managed just 1 yard in the scramble to the Texas 42 before being awkwardly thrown to the ground. He walked away gingerly, handing the ball to Texas with good field position and three timeouts remaining.

Texas makes it a three-point game

The Longhorns, facing fourth-and-3 from the Texas A&M 5-yard line, attempt to force the Aggies offside. After Texas A&M refuses to bite, Steve Sarkisian takes advantage of the delay in game and hits kicker Bert Auburn with a 28-yard field goal to make it 17-0. Texas A&M trails by three points with little time left to score before halftime.

Texas A&M’s Will Lee III perks up

Aggies defensive back Will Lee III came into play twice on that Texas drive, first on the Longhorns sideline and then in the back of the Texas A&M end zone with a Texas receiver. No flags have been raised yet, but perhaps he doesn’t want to test how long this can last.

Andrew Mukuba’s goal call was overturned

Texas safety Andrew Mukuba was called for targeting Jabre Barber on a third-down play for Texas A&M, but the call was overturned after review. That makes it fourth-and-3 for the Aggies from the 31-yard line, and the home team will punt again.

Jaydon Blue catches a touchdown pass from Quinn Ewers

Texas extended its lead to 14-0 with 8:19 remaining in the second quarter on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Quinn Ewers to Jaydon Blue for a touchdown pass. The call was initially ruled incomplete, but upon further review it was converted to a touchdown.

It was a perfect throw from Ewers to the back of the end zone and Blue did a great job getting a foot downfield to catch the ball and score.

The scoring drive includes eight plays over 80 yards and lasts 4:18 minutes.

Vernon Broughton sacks Marcel Reed and forces a punt at Texas A&M

Vernon Broughton is a one-man wrecking crew looking to force another Texas A&M punt. He forced an incomplete pass on first down and then sacked Marcel Reed on second down to force a third-and-17 that the Aggies couldn’t convert. Texas starts at its own 20 after a touchback on a punt.

Texas leads 7-0 after the first quarter

Texas strikes first after a 15-yard touchdown from Arch Manning and takes a 7-0 lead after the first quarter. The Aggies moved the ball well in the first quarter but needed to put themselves in position to score. Texas A&M has the ball at its 48-yard line early in the second quarter.

Texas opens the scoring after a matchup against Arch Manning

The Longhorns score first on a 15-yard touchdown run by Arch Manning on a fourth-and-2 scramble. Manning came on for Quinn Ewers, who has an ankle injury. Ewers managed a 26-yard run on the drive despite an ankle injury.

The scoring drive includes 10 plays for 93 yards and lasts 4:13 minutes.

Texas A&M cannot keep up on the short field as Texas’ Michael Taaffe intercepts quarterback Marcel Reed at the Texas 7-yard line. The Longhorns start their second drive backwards again.

Texas A&M forces a three-pointer

The Aggies respond by forcing two misses from Quinn Ewers, giving the Longhorns a three-pointer. Texas A&M takes over midfield after a 37-yard punt and a fair catch.

The Texas defense forces turnovers on downs

Texas A&M got deep into the red zone on its first drive, but Jermayne Lole made a fourth-and-1 stop after a run by Amari Daniels to force a turnover on downs. The Longhorns start at their own 10-yard line. Quinn Ewers, who was listed as probable, will start for Texas.
