Luke Fickell’s halftime interview only made things worse between Wisconsin and Minnesota

Maybe Phil Longo wasn’t the problem after all? The Wisconsin Badgers are fighting for their lives to extend their bowl streak to 23 years. However, nothing works against the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the regular season finale, and we mean nothing.

With a win, the Badgers improve to 5-6 on the year and actually punch their ticket to a bowl game. However, Wisconsin totaled 44 yards of offense in the first half and trailed 14-0 at home. Fans are going wild in the stands, while even more people are losing patience on social media.

As you might have expected, there’s a lot of blame thrown at Luke Fickell. Shouldn’t he help improve the overall situation of this team? Instead, the opposite is true: six punts were recorded in the first half at home against Minnesota. Fickell announced his offense at half-time, but he can only blame himself:

Not surprisingly, Wisconsin’s first series of the second half resulted in a punt. People called for Braedyn Locke to be substituted behind center to open the third period, but Mabrey Mettauer remained on the sideline – it’s clear the coaches don’t think the rookie is ready.

However, the ground game couldn’t get going in the first or second quarters. This is Fickell’s second year and the expectation was that the Badgers would take a big step forward. It started off great, with Fickell and Co. going 5-2 in the first seven games.

Since then, however, the wheels have fallen off. Before kickoff against Minnesota, Wisconsin had lost four straight and had lost to Penn State, Iowa, Oregon and Nebraska. It now appears that, barring a miracle, Fickell’s team will finish the season 5-7 with a five-game losing streak. It is completely unacceptable.
