Man Utd 3-2 Bodo/Glimt: Ruben Amorim enjoys “special” first win despite “fear”.

Amorim insists that his use of full-backs is not revolutionary, but there is no doubt that his formation will depend heavily on the performance of the man chosen for the number nine role.

Whoever it is, they are expected to keep the opposition defense busy and protect the ball long enough for support to arrive.

Amorim said after the Ipswich game that Marcus Rashford was not suitable for the job. Hojlund’s performance against Bodo/Glimt was more encouraging, although his manager TNT said the Dane was “dead” from fatigue at the end.

Amorim addressed his overall performance in the main press conference 20 minutes later, praising the £72million new signing from Atalanta but also adding some demands.

“He still needs to improve because sometimes he makes too many touches when he holds the ball, but he is very important when we are in a low block because he is the guy who makes the connection in the transitions” said Amorim.

“When he scored goals, he was aggressive in the penalty area. He is a first-class player, scores the most difficult goals and did a great job today.”

For Amorim, the games are tightly packed – United’s longest gap between games until the end of the year is four days.

Should the club progress in the Carabao Cup, there will not be a major gap between games before the end of January.

But Amorim seems like he’s enjoying it. The United fans are already singing a song for him, giving him a warm welcome on the way out of the tunnel and an enthusiastic welcome as he heads back into the tunnel having won the game.

“It was special because I came from Portugal and half the stadium doesn’t know me,” he said.

“I haven’t done anything for this club yet, but the way they supported me from the beginning made me feel like I’m not alone now, that I’m one of them. I hope not to disappoint them.”
