Nate M. Brief thoughts: We’ll find out if the Dana Holgorsen effect is real on offense. Last week they definitely passed the test against a good Wisconsin defense with 44 points. They’ll probably face a better defense in Iowa, but Nebraska doesn’t need to score 44 points to win the game. Iowa will run the ball and if Nebraska can stop the run, they win the game. It could be that simple.

Iowa-Nebraska History: Nebraska and Iowa will meet for the 14th consecutive time as Big Ten opponents and 55th time overall. Nebraska is 30-21-3 in the all-time series between the schools, while the Hawkeyes are 9-4 since Nebraska joined the Big Ten Conference.

Matchup from Husker Game Notes: Nebraska ends its 2024 regular season Friday night by traveling to Iowa City to face the Iowa Hawkeyes in the schools’ annual Black Friday matchup. After a 44-25 victory over Wisconsin last Saturday afternoon in Lincoln, Nebraska travels to Iowa City with momentum. The win improved the Huskers to 6-5 on the season and gave Nebraska its first bowl trip since the 2016 season.

The Huskers used their most comprehensive offensive performance of the season to pull away from the Badgers with the win. Nebraska’s 44 points were the most in two seasons under Matt Rhule, and the Huskers scored their second-most points of the season in total offense (473), rushing offense (180) and passing offense (293). Defensively, the Blackshirts had two takeaways in the game and forced Wisconsin to go scoreless on three drives inside the Nebraska 25-yard line.

Iowa enters the regular season finale with a 7-4 overall record and a 5-3 record in Big Ten Conference play. The Hawkeyes are coming off a 29-13 victory at Maryland on Saturday, a game in which Iowa relied on its running game, rolling for 268 yards on the ground and holding the ball for more than 37 minutes. Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson ran for 164 yards in the win. He ranks second nationally in rushing yards per game. Overall, the Hawkeyes lead the Big Ten and rank 13th nationally in rushing with 213.5 yards per game. The Hawkeyes once again feature one of the Big Ten’s best defenses, allowing just 17.7 points per game while leading the Big Ten in turnover margin.
