Neighbors say a member of the Rothschild family has died after a house fire in the Hollywood Hills

HOLLYWOOD HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A man whom neighbors identified as a member of the wealthy Rothschild family died Wednesday after a fire at a two-story hillside home in the Hollywood Hills.

Crews responded to the 8500 block of Lookout Mountain Avenue around 4:40 p.m. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, a total of 45 firefighters extinguished the fire in about 33 minutes.

Firefighters found a dead man in the house. Officials have not released the man’s name, but neighbors identified him as Will Rothschild, of the prominent banking family.

The cause of death is being determined by the LA County Medical Examiner. It is unclear what may have started the fire and the incident remains under investigation.

No other injuries were reported.

Rothschild was described by neighbors as an eccentric millionaire – or even billionaire – with several properties and dozens of expensive cars.

On a street lined with multimillion-dollar homes and mansions and inhabited by celebrities and the powerful, Rothschild is said to have lived something of a hermit.

While some neighbors had never seen him and assumed the house was empty, those who knew him were saddened by the loss.

“It’s very sad,” said neighbor Jim Moore. “He was a good guy. A good neighbor.”
