Oilers vs. Utah Hockey Club prediction, tips and odds for today’s NHL game

The Edmonton Oilers begin a three-game road trip tonight in Salt Lake City against the Utah Hockey Club at the Delta Center.

My predictions for the Oilers vs. Utah Hockey Club game are for superstar Connor McDavid to continue his recent winning streak and get back in the net.

My Oilers analysis
Edmonton Oilers All-Star Connor McDavid has had a bit of a slow start this season when it comes to actually scoring the puck, but he’s been getting there lately. The 27-year-old has scored in six of his last eight games and in that time McDavid has eight goals.

The three-time Hart Trophy winner scored two goals in a big 6-2 win over the New York Rangers last Saturday and found the net twice in a convincing win over the Ottawa Senators on November 19th. He now has 28 points, including 11 goals and 17 assists.

The Utah Hockey Club is a new team, so McDavid has never played against them before. However, the expansion franchise is allowing 3.14 goals per night, which ranks 20th in the NHL. A player as talented as McDavid will always make an impact, whether it shows in the stats or not.

However, given the way he’s doing this month and the odds here at a favorable +110, it’s a clear bet.

Leon Draisaitl is a goalscorer at all times

Oilers total goals over 3.5

Not only does McDavid play well, but so does his co-star Leon Draisaitl. The big German actually leads Edmonton with 30 points, scored 16 goals and provided 14 assists. The biggest problem with the Oilers is the lack of production around their top duo. There is nothing bad to say about McDavid or Draisaitl.

The 29-year-old has been on fire lately. He has scored in three straight games and also in six of his last eight appearances. Draisaitl had a goal and an assist in the lopsided win over New York. If you need more proof, he tends to play even better away from home, scoring nine goals in ten games. I expect Draisaitl to produce the goods in Salt Lake City tonight.

The Oilers are 18th in the league with just 2.91 goals per game, but they have scored significantly more goals in recent games. Edmonton has scored 14 goals in its last three games, six times against the Rangers, five against the Senators and three against the Wild in a 5-3 loss.

Again, Utah isn’t particularly good defensively. I think there’s value in overtaking the Oilers in total goals in this game, especially if McDavid and Draisaitl continue to make noise.
