Parts of the new roller coaster, which will debut at Six Flags Great America in 2025, lie in the park. A construction update

GURNEE, Ill. – A record-breaking diving roller coaster called Wrath of Rakshasa is set to open next summer at Six Flags Great America in north suburban Gurnee, and construction is moving quickly.

Parts of its route, including the crown of the first gradient, are now in situ.

Wrath of Rakshasa is set to premiere in 2025, the park’s parent company, Six Flags Entertainment Company, announced in August. Great America shared photos of the new coaster parts on social media this week.

Most of the footers for Wrath of Rakshasa have been cast and built into the ground, so the track could soon go vertical.

The steepest in the world

Wrath of Rakshasa, which Six Flags says will have the “steepest drop in the world with the most inversions on a dive coaster,” will stand 180 feet tall. It will feature a “cliffhanger handle” that will keep riders suspended as they plummet down a 96-degree vertical drop before plummeting 171 feet.

The new coaster, developed by Bolliger & Mabillard, will be located in the County Fair area of Great America, across from the old, fan-favorite Demon coaster.

According to Park Wrath of Rakshasa Highlights include:

  • Three elegant trains with three rows of passengers and seven seats each.
  • 3,239 foot soaring route.
  • Thrilling anticipation as the vehicle pauses face-first in a “cliffhanger hold” before plummeting 171 feet.
  • A fall beyond the vertical by 96 degrees.
  • Five gravity-defying reversals.
  • Speeds of nearly 67 miles per hour.
