Penn State secures berth in Big Ten title game

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WHTM) – The Nittany Lions have punched their ticket to Indianapolis.

No. 4 Penn State (11-1) defeated the Maryland Terrapins (4-8) on Saturday at Beaver Stadium.

The win, coupled with a loss by No. 2 Ohio State (10-2) to Michigan (7-5), secured the Lions a berth in the Big Ten Championship Game.

The Nittany Lions will face the No. 1 Oregon Ducks (11-0), a conference newcomer, on Saturday, December 7, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The Terrapins took an early lead on a 25-yard touchdown pass from MJ Morris to Kaden Prather. Penn State added 31 unanswered points in the first half.

Drew Allar, Beau Pribula and Nick Singleton all added touchdowns on the ground, while TE Tyler Warren caught a 7-yard pass from Allar, breaking the Lions’ touchdown record by a tight end.

Ryan Barker also hit a career-high 49-yard field goal in the first half.

Singleton added an 18-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.

A last-second touchdown pass from Central York’s Pribula to Tyseer Denmark gave the Nittany Lions a 44-7 lead and ended the game.

Penn State hasn’t reached the Big Ten Championship game since 2016, when they beat Wisconsin en route to the Rose Bowl.
