Purdue’s football secondary will have to rely on freshmen against Indiana

BLOOMINGTON – Purdue’s football secondary will be without one of its top cornerbacks against rival Indiana on Saturday.

Freshman Tarrion Grant will miss his first career game in the Boilermakers’ season finale, limiting a secondary without fellow freshman Smiley Bradford, who will miss his second straight game.

Purdue Boilermakers defensive back Hudauri Hines (16) celebrates after a defensive stop on Saturday, November 16, 2024, during the NCAA football game against the Penn State Nittany Lions at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Penn State Nittany Lions won 49-10.

That opens the door for more playing time for freshmen defensemen Hudauri Hines and Koy Beasley. Hines has played in seven games, while Beasley’s only career action came in the season opener against Indiana State.

Meanwhile, starting safety Antonio Stevens is listed as questionable, as are linebacker Owen Davis and running back Reggie Love III.
