Raiders RB Genuine performance from McCormick to get more carries against the Chiefs

With both of the Raiders’ top backs sidelined with injuries last week against the Broncos, practice squad back Sincere McCormick got his first real shot in an NFL game. And he did well.

The former undrafted free agent from Texas-San Antonio carried the ball five times for 33 yards (6.6 yards per carry). This for a guy who has never had a carry in the NFL before. But he earned his chance with his play in training

“We see it every day in practice,” Pierce said of McCormick. “Only chances, right? How many guys can we attract? We can’t dress five running backs every week. You don’t want it to happen through injuries or injured guys or anything like that, but when he got there, he got more than 10 yards on his first run and the next time he bounced off the guys. Just the energy he brought to our offense I really liked.”

McCormick joined the Raiders before last season and only stayed there until he got his chance last week after both Zamir White and Alexander Mattison were sidelined with injuries in the same week.

Well, it’s very possible, even likely, that the Raiders will be without White and Mattison again. And their absences, as well as McCormick’s performance, could lead to him playing a larger role on offense this week when they travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs.

“I’m looking forward to Sincere this week,” Antonio Pierce added. “I’m really excited to see him carry the ball.”

McCormick figures to get more carries between the tackles, while Ameer Abdullah could continue to see carries in space and catch passes out of the backfield.
