San Jose Light Display Offers Bikes Only Night – NBC Bay Area

A light display in San Jose offers a unique look at the way visitors can navigate the city.

At History Park on Sunday, organizers expect nearly 600 cyclists to see the Christmas lights.

“It’s easier to stop and talk to people. You’re not stuck in a car. I think it’s great,” said Sunnyvale resident John Schmitz.

Riders young and old rode through the park, and some events had their bikes decorated.

Christmas in the Park organizes the event, but at the request of a cyclist, the organization decided to offer an evening just for cyclists.

“Christmas In The Park is all about inclusion, but some people don’t drive or don’t want to drive. “So we wanted them to experience it the way they needed to,” said Debbie Degutis, executive director of Christmas in the Park.

Money raised at the event will support the organization’s exhibit in downtown San Jose, totaling just under $100,000 for the 2025 event.

“Since we are not receiving the donations we expected, we are considering whether we need to make a change next year since we currently have a deficit,” Degutis said.

Although Sunday is the only night cyclists are allowed, the community will be able to drive through until December 31st.
