Slovan Bratislava – AC Milan 2:3: Tammy Abraham’s goal helps Milan win the Champions League

Tammy Abraham scored his first Champions League goal for AC Milan as the Serie A side saw off Slovan Bratislava to secure a third consecutive win in the competition.

The England striker intercepted David Strelec’s errant back pass, then beat goalkeeper Dominik Takac to give the visitors a two-goal lead with 20 minutes left.

Christian Pulisic had given the visitors a deserved lead in the first half through a precise pass from Abraham, but the hosts equalized just three minutes later when Tigran Barseghyan escaped the Milan defense and lifted the ball over goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Paulo Fonseca’s team struggled to break down Slovan’s resolute defense until half-time substitute Rafael Leao caught Youssouf Fofana’s through ball midway through the second period and directed a cool finish past Takac.

Abraham scored Milan’s third just three minutes later, but Slovan ensured a nervy finish when Nino Marcelli sent a superb shot into the top corner with two minutes left.

However, Marko Tolic’s late red card for a second bookable attack almost ended the home side’s hopes of picking up their first point of their European campaign.

Since starting the group with defeats to Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen, Milan have now beaten Club Brugge, reigning champions Real Madrid and Slovan.

With Red Star Belgrade and Girona visiting the San Siro both Christmases, Fonseca’s side are well placed to secure a coveted top eight spot.

Slovan, meanwhile, remains bottom of the league stage after losing all five games.
