Subway is canceling its $6.99 meal deal: Here’s why

Subway is ending its latest meal offering after less than a month.

According to Restaurant Butosiness, the sandwich chain is canceling the $6.99 meal deal earlier than expected because sales did not meet expectations.

The promotion, which launched on November 3rd, will next be removed from restaurants’ menus on November 27th, but customers can still order the food on the company’s website and app until December 26th.

Restaurant Business Reports Subway sent a message to operators announcing the end of the value meal service. In the memo, the chain said the deal performed well in market tests but fell short of expectations overall.

“While the nationwide Meal Deal promotion is delivering the expected number of daily redemptions, the promotion overall is not producing the expected results,” the statement said.

Subway plans to offer another discount soon. According to Restaurant Business, the chain plans to launch a digital offering that will give customers a 20% discount on any subscription. This discount is expected to be valid from November 27th to January 5th.

The end of the $6.99 meal deal comes as it is announced that Subway CEO John Chidsey is retiring at the end of the year. According to the Wall Street Journal, Subway said Chidsey will continue to serve as a consultant for the chain, focusing on international expansion and securing deals with major global franchisees.
