The entire Blue Lagoon parking lot is now submerged in lava, except for a few streetlights at the end of what was once the parking lot.

Then the lava appears to have spread a little and, among other things, flew straight over a sign directing visitors to the parking lot.

The lava continues to flow along the defensive wall west of the Blue Lagoon.

This is the Blue Lagoon’s main car park and there is parking for around 350 cars as well as bus parking.

Helga Árnadóttir, Sales, Operations and Service Manager of the Blue Lagoon, told mbl.is today that access to the Blue Lagoon will need to be examined in due course to see if there are opportunities to use other vehicle access routes.

“It’s impossible to say at this stage what the damage will be, but we’ll get a better look at this over time and see how we can respond. “There is some parking available at the reservoir, but we’ll need to take a closer look at this in the future,” said Árnadóttir.

You can watch the progress of the lava on a webcam from Mount Þorbjörn.
