The Los Angeles Dodgers are extending the contract of the postseason hero

The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a contract extension with one of the key players in the team’s World Series title run.

The Dodgers agreed to a deal with Tommy Edman on Friday that ensures the all-rounder remains with the team for the foreseeable future.

Accordingly ESPN’s Jeff PassanEdman agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $74 million. The deal calls for the reigning National League Championship Series MVP to remain with the Dodgers through 2029, including a team option for the sixth year.

Passan says the deal includes a $17 million signing bonus and, like many of the team’s recent controversial signings, will include a later portion of the money.

“Tommy Tanks” arrived in Los Angeles at the MLB trade deadline in July after playing his entire career with the St. Louis Cardinals. He was signed as part of a three-team deal that also signed Dodgers reliever Michael Kopech while also sending rookie and infielder Miguel Vargas to the Chicago White Sox.

Edman was recovering from offseason wrist surgery and had not played a single game in 2024 when the Dodgers targeted him.

He rewarded them by slashing .327 with 20 hits in the postseason, including 2 home runs, 13 RBI and five stolen bases, while playing Golden Glove-worthy defense at both shortstop and center field.

The team retaliated with a salary increase and a long-term commitment to him.

It’s the latest major offseason move for the defending champion Dodgers, who just signed two-time Cy Young Award-winning pitcher Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million contract.

The Dodgers enter the winter break with important decisions to make regarding other postseason heroes, including outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, utility man Kike Hernandez, relief pitcher Blake Treinen and starting pitchers Jack Flaherty and Walker Buehler.

The team is also closely linked to Japanese flamethrower Roki Sasaki, who could join his compatriots Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the Dodgers’ (renovated) clubhouse.
