This is the year to buy a Switch OLED console – and here’s why

We’re on the precipice of a very different time for the Nintendo Switch. I’ve been researching prices on this handheld console for five years, so I have unique insight into the tiny price fluctuations that occur on the Switch console on Black Friday – and this year is like no other.

With the Switch 2 launching next year, I think it’s unlikely that there will be any major reductions on the Switch console for a long time. This means it’s a special time to buy the OLED console at a very affordable price – a device that will stand the test of time for a while. Here’s what I think will happen and why you should take advantage of the deals popping up now.

01. We say goodbye to the original console

I wouldn’t recommend buying the original Switch console this year. I think it’s being discontinued and it’s eight years old now. Unless you are really on a budget I think the shelf life is limited and I will be removing this from the range.

02. The MSRP will increase for the premium device in the series

With the Switch 2 rumored to cost around $400, the most expensive console in the range will be more expensive than it currently is (the OLED has an RRP of $349/£299.99). The OLED console will be reduced to around $300, which is the same price as the current base Switch. I don’t see any changes for the Lite.
