Tom Brady criticizes Daniel Jones for demanding his release from the New York Giants

We might be wise to pass on Daniel Jones as a possible starting quarterback signing for the Las Vegas Raiders next offseason.

That’s because on Sunday afternoon during FOX’s broadcast of the Dallas Cowboys vs. the Giants, Tom Brady lashed out at Jones in the most dispassionate and logical manner since the quarterback was released by the New York Giants.

Brady wouldn’t have given up

And as with everything Brady-related, he doesn’t just speak as a top analyst on the network. He is also a minority owner of the Raiders and is expected to have a voice in the direction the team takes in the coming years.

The topic in the second quarter revolved around Jones asking the Giants to release him last week after he was benched for salary cap and financial reasons and then demoted behind Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock.

The Giants granted Jones’ wish days later.

“I don’t know how the whole situation developed, but to think that you would ask for release from a team that is very committed to you is perhaps different to the way I would have handled it.” said Brady.

“I always felt like I wanted to gain the trust and respect of my teammates regardless of the situation because I knew I was trying to do my best for the team because that was the most important thing.”

Brady faced adversity at Michigan

And now you think Brady has no room to talk because he never gave up in his NFL career, in which he won seven Super Bowl rings.

However, Brady suffered setbacks at the University of Michigan when he made the fourth team as a quarterback, worked his way up the rankings and then was demoted. Brady was even forced to share the quarterback job with other players who had obviously never achieved as much as he had in the NFL.

“There’s just different things going on in the NFL and everyone makes individual decisions and I think we’re all at different points in our careers and facing different challenges,” Brady said. “I met her in college. And some things didn’t go the way I wanted.”

“But the people that mattered most to me were the guys in the locker room. I showed up every day. I don’t care if they ask me to be a scout team safety or a scout team quarterback. “I wanted to do whatever I could” to help the team win.

You must remember that Jones received a four-year contract extension in 2023 worth $160 million. And he’s still making money on that deal through the end of this season, even if he’s making a lot less to be with the Vikings.

Jones requested and received his release

Obviously, Brady sees this as a potential retirement for Jones from the Giants.

And yes, the Giants gave up on Jones. They viewed his presence as a starter as a problem because it put him at risk of injury. And the club in this case didn’t want to pay his $23 million injury guarantee next March.

But the Giants gave Jones the opportunity to stay with the team, knowing he wouldn’t play. They also made it clear that he could choose to leave.

He went.

And Tom Brady clearly doesn’t like this choice.
