Two Georgia football rookies are on their way to making NFL history

Georgia football fans are used to seeing their players achieve great success in the NFL. So when a former Bulldog has a big week in the NFL, it’s actually no big deal.

But two Georgia rookies have had elite seasons so far this season and are on pace to do something that has only been accomplished a second time in the NFL.

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers is the first rookie from Georgia to have a fantastic season so far. Bowers has recorded 74 receptions for 744 yards with the Raiders this season. That includes three touchdown receptions, including two in his last three games.

Fellow Georgia rookie Ladd McConkey is having an equally impressive season with the Los Angeles Chargers. McConkey is right behind Bowers with 698 receiving yards on 49 receptions.

Those receiving yard totals from Bowers and McConkey are currently No. 1 and No. 2 in the entire NFL among all rookies. And if that stat holds true for the rest of the season, they will become the second duo to do so in their rookie season from the same college, joining Ohio State’s Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson in 2022.

No Georgia fan is surprised that Bowers is doing so well, but McConkey is a little surprised. It’s not surprising that he’s having a good season, but it’s very unexpected that he’s No. 2 in receiving yards among all rookies. But that only speaks to the development Georgia’s players are experiencing at UGA under Kirby Smart.

So while we wait to see if Georgia can advance to the College Football Playoff, all Georgia fans should pay close attention. And hopefully in a few weeks we can celebrate that Bowers and McConkey are the two leaders in receiving yards among all NFL rookies.
