UCL fantasy team revealed on matchday 5: Yamal out, Pulisic in?

The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League (UCL) season returns today – and with it the competition’s official fantasy game.

Here, our resident European football expert Louis/FPL Reactions – co-host of the official UCL Fantasy podcast – gives us his matchday 5 team reveal.

Before we get to my Matchday 5 squad, it’s worth mentioning my long-term plans. Both the Wildcard and Limitless chips remain, which I will use to attack the final stages of the League Phase.

Wildcard is used on matchday 6 for the positive game fluctuations of Milan, Arsenal, Atlético, Bayern, Liverpool, Stuttgart, Real Madrid and Sporting. It also helps that teams like Dortmund, Manchester City, Barcelona, Leverkusen and Juventus are entering a more difficult phase. The chip will reshape my entire team.

At the moment I have two free transfers for Matchday 5 without having to worry about future games.

CURRENT TEAM

UCL Fantasy Team Revealed on Matchday 5:
GOALKEEPER

Currently between the sticks Janis Blaswich (4.3 million euros), but since Alexander Schlager (3.9 million euros) is back after his suspension, I don’t think he will start. That would leave me with only one stopper on matchday 5 – Juventus’ Michele Di Gregorio (€4.3 million). He plays at Aston Villa so I’m not convinced I’ll return as goalkeeper this week.

DEFENDER

I’m also not as confident in my backline as most previous campaigns. I don’t think there are many good options even if I decided to switch.

There is uncertainty that Dortmund Emre Can (€5.3 million) or Man City Rico Lewis (€4.8m) will start based on recent performances and teammates returning from injury. I’ve been in limbo with both for a long time.

On the other hand, I expect a return from Milan’s Theo Hernandez (5.5 million euros) and Leverkusen full-back Alejandro Grimaldo (€5.6 million) as both have great facilities. However, Barcelona were unconvincing in defense, so I have question marks about what Pau Cubarsi (€4.5 million).

MIDFIELDER

Leverkusen talisman Florian Wirtz (7.7 million euros) and in-form Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah (€10.1 million) should perform well or at least generate a return. The same applies to Barcelona’s explosiveness Raphinha (7.6 million euros), who could continue his form at home against Brest.

My purchase on matchday 4 was the Dortmund attacker Jamie Gittens (€5.3m), who didn’t do anything significant against Sturm Graz but has a game in hand against GNK Dinamo to repay his faith. Midfielder five is Lamine Jamal (€7.5 million), one person was excluded due to injury.

FORWARD

It feels okay at the front. Bavaria Harry Kane (10.7 million euros) is at home against Paris Saint-Germain and takes a penalty Erling Haaland (€11.0 million) hosts Feyenoord and is joined by Atalanta Matteo Retegui (€5.3 million).
